News Of  Interest

Elizabeth Peterson, an intern from Chaplaincy  Institute of Maine, is enjoying her work with GSM.

We received a donation recently from someone who asked her friends, in lieu of birthday presents, to each donate $25.

Your Donations At Work

Dawn was happy to receive her used bike. It was fixed by the teens at Westbrook Alternative High.

Charles appreciated a tent and tarp to give him a break  from the shelter, which is over flowing  with homeless men.

Fundraising Opportunity

Grace–Street Ministry has been invited to take part in the 2010 Feinstein Challenge. Alan Feinstein of Rhode Island has, for 13 consecutive years, divided $1million annually among agencies who have addressed hunger and the needs of the poor. From March 1 to April 30 ANY donation to Grace-Street Ministry will be added to by Alan Feinstein.

Ways to Help

Many times, Pastor Mair is asked "How can I help?" after she speaks at a church, or other community event.  Here's a list of things folks can contribute:

Year-round
  • Dunkin Donuts Gift Cards (at least $4 per card)
  • Subway Gift Cards
  • Prepaid Cell phone cards
  • Back packs
  • Clothing: Socks, Packages of underwear (see season lists, below)
  • Personal Hygiene items: Small soaps, lotions, shampoos, Deodorant
  • One can also volunteer to walk with Pastor Mair or be an occasional  shopper or help with transportation as needed

Spring/Summer
  • Water bottles

  • Lightweight rain ponchos

Workshop

Rev. Mair Honan conducted a workshop as part of Bates College's 2010 Martin Luther King Jr Day Workshops held Jan 18, 2010. The workshop, Finding Holy Ground in Portland focused on using Presence, Prayer and Advocacy to support the homeless in Portland.
